Walking around and through
uptown
scraping past students on the
sidewalk
all drunk with senses gone.
I put on my glasses,
the ones with scratches and
smudges
tinted by worldliness and
tainted by
judgment
This is what I see:
Sorority sisters trippin on
stone,
having lost everything they
own
iPhone in one hand
tyng 2 txt tnite’z hookyp
not seeing the concrete spot
where they’re about to land.
Frat stars and broski’s and
dudes all alike
red-faced and lookin to
fight.
appearing so tough until
they’re under the spot light.
Pretend lovers sneaking away
sharing kisses along the way
lust filled eyes and loose
thighs
everyone giving into
temptation
inebriation inhibiting
hesitation
And yet…
He doesn’t see what I see
He see’s you and me and them
all filthy and sinners alike
deserving nothing from the
King
He isn’t proud of us,
He’s only impressed by Jesus
luckily for me and you
He died to put a shroud over
everything we do.
Covered by His blood,
we can be redeemed and God
the Highest Judge
only see’s the blood of the
son He loves.
So when me mess up and
succumb to temptation
we’re covered by redemption.
For a moment, God took off my
glasses
And I saw the world then
without socially constructed
classes
Just people, created from
dust,
maybe not under a steeple
cause the church isn’t a
building
the church are these, these
people
who He loves with surplus
who He created, an artist,
who Christ died for
regardless!
